to provide parents with a seamless way to record, track, analyze, and share the behaviors of children with autism.
A video prototype was made to communicate the problem statement and the user experience of the final product.
We started this project by investigating whether it is feasible to track behaviors of children with ASD by attaching wearable devices to their bodies. Then we considered using assistance dogs as proxies to track children’s behaviors. The final direction that we ended up pursuing is tracking children with ASD by attaching wearable cameras to their parents.
This project consisted of multiple rounds of ideation and investigation. The two diagrams on the right are selections from the second round of ideation.
Three main prototyping methods were used at different evaluation stages in this project.
The two studies shown on the right side are selections from the evaluation methods used in this project. The following quote is from one of the participants.
The camera vibrates to indicate the beginning and the end of recording. At the end of the day the app reminds parents to annotate the behaviors that they have captured. Then parents can use the data analysis tool to discover behaviors patterns and triggers.
